Description
Charles Heidsieck was one of the first Champagne Houses to put its passion for Chardonnays into practice by producing a Blanc de Blancs from the 1949 harvest. This cuvée, relaunched in 2018, brings together two of the House’s skills: the art of making great white wines and the art of blending a wide selection of wines from different years and terroirs. The challenge is to make opposites coexist: the tension and freshness of young Chardonnays on the one hand, and the silkiness and patina of Charles on the other.

Tasting | On the nose, the aromas of ripe Chardonnay escape vine peach, candied citrus fruits, with some notes of lime blossom, honeysuckle, fresh hazelnuts. A second nose has subtle notes of mandarin and lemon. On the palate, freshness and tension are wrapped up in this typically Charles generosity: the attack is frank, pure, without aggressiveness, with a smoothness that is almost atypical for a Blanc de Blancs that is often defined as more angular than creamy. The balanced finish surprises with its minerality and saltiness. A Champagne for aperitif but which will reveal itself perfectly because of its proportion of old wines on refined dishes such as scallops or lobster. |
