Description
An important legacy of Charles Heidsieck’s was his commitment to the art of blending. While his competitors opted for extreme selectivity of vintages, betting on vines and grape varieties, he made agreements with the most gifted winemakers in Champagne, choosing wines from a wide range of villages. He knew how to get the best out of each vintage, letting them age at their own pace until full maturity, in a differentiated way. At Charles Heidsieck, a bottle can contain nearly 60 different wines, with varying degrees of ageing, but generally well above average. The Cuvée Champagne Charlie will be one of the most respectable from the point of view of ageing with almost 80% reserve wines and 20% 2016 wines

Tasting | On the nose, notes of grapefruit and roasted pineapple, followed by grilled and mineral notes on agitation. After a few moments, fresh fruits (apricots, vine peach) appear briefly to give way to more pastry notes. On the palate, the texture is really Charlie's soul and we find this paradox between a youthful freshness and a fatness, a silkiness worthy of a more mature wine. It is a "dry fat wine" with an effervescence full of nuances and extremely caressing bubbles. Candied citrus and more exotic notes of passion fruit on the finish. |
