Description
The name of the cuvée 1522 pays homage to the year when the Philipponnat family took root in the village of Ay, in the heart of the Champagne region. The Pinot Noir comes from the historic vineyard of “Léon” in Ay, the Chardonnay from Mesnil-sur-Oger. A proportion of the wines are vinified in oak barrels and do not undergo malolactic fermentation to preserve the freshness of the wine and allow it to gain in complexity. Full-bodied and tangy at the same time, this cuvée lends itself perfectly to a low dosage of extra-brut. Eight years of ageing on the lees magnifies this cuvée while preserving its original freshness.

Tasting | An intense and floral nose, with notes of fruit tree flowers, cherry, elderberry and touches of violet. The mouth is expressive and greedy, it expresses itself on black fruits (blackberry, ripe or even candied blackcurrant, black cherry), to which are associated notes of almond and dried fruits. The finish is very fresh. A beautiful combination with a fillet of venison. Cuvée 1522 has a nice fullness, which makes it an excellent table champagne. |
