Famous houses

Definition: A “Champagne House” (Maison de Champagne) is an agricultural and commercial Enterprise which implements all the material and human resources necessary for the development and distribution of a Great Brand.
Preparation begins with the selection; before the harvest; of the grapes varieties which will be purchased from the winegrowers, thanks to a privileged multi-year supply partnership. These will; most often; be supplemented by the harvest of each domain.
Each ” Brand”, produced by a Maison de Champagne, guarantees their customer constant compliance with a production process that meets rigorous traditional characters. The assemblage of vintages and grapes varieties (with possible additional contribution of reserve wines from previous years) constitutes an essential stage. This process must satisfy a worldwide clientele who demands to find year after year the quality, consistency of taste and characteristics of the Brand that they prefer. The Great Brands produced by the “ Maisons de Champagne” have for more than two centuries consolidated the international notoriety of sparkling wines from the terroirs of Champagne.
A Champagne from a “Maison de Champagne” is a Champagne of constant quality comprising a blend of different vintages and terroirs.
Consequently, any company which does not control all the material and human resources essential to develop its wines and market, cannot count among the hundred “Maisons de Champagne” members of the UMC (Union des Maisons of Champagnes). She remains a simple Merchant registered with the CIVC (Interprofessional Committee of Champagne Wines)
The “Maisons de Champagne” are at the origin of the notoriety and prestige of Champagne wines all around the world. They have created the Champagne myth. Their talent lies in the elaboration of vintages which reflect the characteristic style of each Brand.
