Description
Krug believes that each vintage expresses the unique character of a particular year. Krug 2011 is the result of a year of contrasts and surprises, which the House Tasting Committee has dubbed “Rondeur Ciselée”. Krug 2011 is full-bodied, generous and assertive. 2011 was a year divided in two, with inverted seasons and an abrupt change at flowering time. A summer spring led to early and rapid vine development. This paradoxical and unpredictable climate reached its peak on the eve of the harvest, when four scorching days were followed by two days of intense rain and then cooler days. This year’s Pinots Noirs showed perfect balance and structure, while the Meuniers retained their freshness and elegant bitters. The Chardonnays, more affected by the heat spikes, were riper and juicier than in previous years, their usual tension giving way to exemplary roundness and generosity. The climate had a striking impact on the wines, capturing the fruit as if it had been “cooked” by the heat, while preserving its moderate sugar content.

Tasting | Fresh fruit dominates the nose. In an exquisite play of contrasts, this Champagne opens with an enveloping roundness of pastry and stewed fruit. Smoky notes and thyme are also present. From the end of the mouth comes the surprise. Chiselled and lively, it extends with notes of sea salt and grapefruit zest. This vintage is a delicious accompaniment to spicy dishes, grilled meats, seafood with character, and gourmet desserts. |
